Our Story

Under original ownership since 1988, Pane e Vino opened its doors as the first authentic Italian restaurant in Montecito. It has always been, and still is, a favorite for many local residents.

We serve naturally grown beef and poultry and there is a great choice of the freshest seafood, from grilled Sardines to Dover Sole. We also serve homemade whole wheat pastas, gnocchi, and veal ravioli topped with butter and sage. We use award winning cold pressed olive oil which is imported from Sicily. The owner created this restaurant to share his passion for great simple Italian food with all the people who enjoy eating well. He carefully selects local organic vegetables, herbs, and fruits from the Farmer's Market.

Daily specials are seasonal and change according to availability and quality. For an example during the fall there is: risotto and pasta with a vast variety of mushrooms, white truffle, pumpkin ravioli, gnocchi and pumpkin cheesecake. In the winter there is puntarelle, a very distinct vegetable from southern Italy, and diverse dishes with radicchio. In the springtime there is: white asparagus from Holland, assorted peas, artichokes etc. In the summertime there is: heirloom tomatoes, Italian beets, lots of fantastic local organic vegetables etc.

All of the desserts are made freshly on the premises. You have a choice of fruit tarts, panna cotta, cheesecake, tiramisu, gelato, and more. Pane e Vino furthermore has a great selection of Californian and Italian wines. The dessert wines are served with cantucci biscotti.

At this restaurant you will experience mouthwatering delightful meals prepared with a selection of only the freshest ingredients. The ambiance here is like an old fashioned little trattoria in Italy, welcoming and warm!
